“I joined the Ecofish team in fall 2013 with some trepidation for what a career would be like in the consulting industry. I had earned my Ph.D. and as a young scientist was keen to make a difference with the skills I had developed. I quickly learned that Ecofish offers a work environment with high scientific excellence and strong professional ethics with a wide range of opportunities to contribute to applied freshwater, marine and terrestrial management issues. We work at the intersection of development and conservation and are asked to solve complex problems for government, First Nations, industry and communities. My work is remarkably diverse and includes projects such as monitoring marine cumulative effects in the Skeena estuary, designing adaptive management plans for run of river power projects, and developing stream habitat restoration opportunities for salmon and other fish. Ecofish has allowed me to maintain a connection to the universities and we are currently collaborating with a lab at the University of Victoria to develop environmental DNA technology to improve monitoring of freshwater biodiversity. To do all this, I work with a diverse and talented team of professionals who I get to play trivia with at the annual holiday party!”
