From Nov 9th-11th, Ecofish was pleased to once again have the opportunity to chair at the Greater Mekong Forum in Bangkok, Thailand. This event is the largest of its kind in the Mekong Region and a major regional knowledge-sharing event.
Senior Environmental Scientist, Dr. Xuezhong Yu chaired the session titled “Lancang-Mekong Collaboration Mechanism: Opportunities and Challenges for Transboundary Water Governance in the Mekong Region.” The session aimed to explore the implications of the Lancang-Mekong Collaboration Mechanism to transboundary water governance in the Mekong region. The new framework is the first sub-regional cooperation mechanism initiated by the six countries located along the Lancang-Mekong River: China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Dr. Yu summarized the study works on river health assessment and hydropower impacts in the Lancang River Basin, and proposed major fields of water resources collaboration under the new framework.
The successful session attracted a large audience at the Forum and received high praise for prompt response and excellent organization.
